Vaccine Updates

COVID-19 Vaccines for Adults 75 Years or Older- now available in Wake County!

If you are 75 years of age or older, you can now schedule your vaccine appointment in several different ways:

  • Call Wake County's Health Department- 919-250-1500 or visit Wake County website.

  • Call NCDHHS' COVID-19 Line 1-877-490-6642 or visit NCDHHS website.

  • Schedule through UNC Health HERE or call 984-215-5485

  • Schedule through Duke Health HERE or call 919-385-0429

If you need transportation to get to your vaccine appointment, please give us a call at 919-676-2295 so we can schedule a ride for you through JFSGo.

JFS Service Updates

Our staff and services are available to support you and your family in this time of uncertainty. Whether you need support through food or financial assistance, or emotional support through counseling and therapy, we’d be glad to help. Please contact us by phone at (919) 676-2295 , email us, or request services online. Please allow at least two business days before getting a response.

Please be advised that JFS does not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are experiencing a life threatening or other crisis situation, dial 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Please read below for important updates and changes for JFS services, and ways that you can help. Please note the following changes to our services, effective 3/16:

  • All therapy and case management sessions are held over the phone or through online video (HIPAA-compliant platform).

  • All in-person volunteer outreach and Shabbat Services are currently suspended. We are continuing outreach in other creative ways- contact us to volunteer or receive our services.

  • JFSGo Transportation: We continue providing transportation services to older adults (Volunteer transportation is temporarily suspended). If you have an appointment that is medically necessary and would like us to schedule this ride through our contracted transportation (Lyft) please understand while we are able to provide this service it is a third party and we cannot guarantee if the driver is cleaning the car between riders or who they may have transported.

  • Food assistance:

    • Donations of non-perishable food can be dropped off on Mondays and Fridays only or dropped off in the collection box outside our office. Check out our pantry needs.

    • Food pantry distribution for clients is every Friday between 9am-2pm, as a "drive-thru". Please call us at 919-676-6331 when you arrive, and we will bring food to your car. If you are unable to come to our office to pick up, please contact us to schedule porch delivery. Mitzvah Meals deliveries continue on a regular schedule.

  • Community Programming has gone virtual! Check out our calendar to find virtual programming from Jewish Family Services and the Jewish Community Center.

Tips for caregivers during COVID-19:

  • Create and maintain a daily routine for yourself that includes: healthy meals, physical activity, a good night’s rest and limiting alcohol intake.

  • Stay focused on the here and now and what is within your control.

  • Stay connected to friends and family by regular phone or video calls.

  • Stay connected to the loved one you are caring for (if not in your home) by regular phone and video calls.

  • Join an online caregivers support group.

  • Call your loved one’s health care worker with questions or just to check in.

  • JFS can direct you to resources for caregivers both to learn caregiving skills as well as best practices in managing dementia related behavioral issues.

  • Remember that you are not alone. JFS is here to support you, call 919-676-2295 x114.

Ways To Help JFS

  • Donate gift cards for grocery stores and gas stations. These can be mailed to us or dropped off at our food box on Mondays & Tuesdays.

  • Give a monetary donation to allow us to purchase additional food, provide emergency financial assistance, and support our ongoing efforts. GIVE HERE

  • Become a volunteer with JFS. In the next week or so, we will rely greatly on our volunteers for food delivery and phone outreach. Read more HERE

  • Donate paper grocery bags that we can use for our food pantry
