Programs & Services at Retirement Communities
JFS volunteers invite senior living in 12 senior communities to attend Shabbat services at their communities on a monthly basis. Shabbat services are currently held at, Atria Oakridge, Brookdale North Raleigh, The Cardinal at North Hills, Gardens at Wakefield Plantation, Independence Village, Magnolia Glen, Morningside Assisted Living, Preston Pointe, Sunrise North Hills, Waltonwood Cary Pkwy, Woodland Terrace and Whispering Pines. Shalom Baby is designed to help Jewish families in the Raleigh-Cary area celebrate the birth or adoption of their babies and welcome them to the Jewish Community through a delivery of a special Shalom Baby gift bag. Shalom Baby is a program of Jewish Family Services and the Jewish Community Center. Bags are assembled and delivered by JFS volunteers directly to your home! Sign up here.
JFS volunteers visit members in the Jewish community currently receiving care at a local hospital, rehab or nursing facility. Bikur Cholim volunteers are trained and provide comfort to patients in a time of need. Bikur Cholim is currently offered at WakeMed Raleigh, WakeMed Cary, Rex Hospital, Duke Raleigh.
JFS coordinates several Holiday and Shabbat outreach efforts to provide families and individuals in need the experience and opportunity of Jewish traditions when they may not be able to take part in the greater community. Whether they are home bound, isolated or have a financial need, JFS is here to provide the Jewish connection. Among these are catered Kosher-style Shabbat and holiday meals, a Chanukah Gift Drive, Passover bags and more.
Community Events and Programs
Our workshops and programs are catered to populations of all ages and stages of life. Along with topics relating to parenting, mental health and well-being, and older adults issues, we organize and coordinate programs relating to the entire community on social action, volunteerism and more. Good Deeds Day is an annual tradition of good deeds. All over the world, hundreds of thousands choose to volunteer and help others, putting into practice the simple idea that every single person can do something good, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others and positively change the world. In 2018, Raleigh-Cary Jewish Family Services marked its 4th year coordinating and leading this day with over 460 volunteers in 20 community projects. Learn more here.
Sharsheret leads the national Jewish response to breast cancer and ovarian cancer by working with local community partners, to create and enhance culturally-relevant local breast cancer programs, support services, resources, and events. Raleigh-Cary Jewish Family Services became a Shrarsheret partner in June 2016.
